Descrizione
È un'orchidea epifita dallo sviluppo monopodiale. Le foglie coriacee, risultano piuttosto allungate (11–35 cm) e strette (1,2-3,5 cm), dall'apice retuso. L'infiorescenza è un racemo molto fitto con piccoli fiori bianchi e rosa.[2]
Distribuzione e habitat
La specie è diffusa in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Cina meridionale (Guizhou, Yunnan), , Myanmar, Malesia, Thailandia, Laos, Cambogia, Vietnam, isole Andamane e Nicobare, Indonesia (Borneo, Sumatra, Giava) e Filippine.[1]
Vive su tronchi in piena foresta o ai margini in posizioni fortemente illuminate, ad altitudini comprese tra 300 e 1500 m.[senza fonte]

Rhynchostylis retusa (also called foxtail orchid) is an orchid, belonging to the Vanda alliance. The inflorescence is a pendant raceme, consisting of more than 100 pink-spotted white flowers. The plant has a short, stout, creeping stem carrying up to 12, curved, fleshy, deeply channeled, keeled, retuse apically leaves and blooms on an axillary pendant to 60 cm (24 in) long, racemose, densely flowered, cylindrical inflorescence that occurs in the winter and early spring. It is famous for its use as a hair-ornament worn by Assamese women during folk dance Bihu on the onset of spring.[2][fr] Rhynchostylis retusa
