Distribuzione e habitat


Questo uccello vive nelle Americhe, dal Canada a sud del circolo polare artico, fino alle regioni settentrionali di Cile e Argentina. È più raro ma presente nell'estremo nord (Alaska, Nunavut, etc.) e nell'estremo sud (Patagonia e Terra del Fuoco). Di passo in Francia, nel nord Europa, nelle Hawaii e sulle isole esterne dei Caraibi.

The willet (Tringa semipalmata) is a large shorebird in the family Scolopacidae. It is a relatively large and robust sandpiper, and is the largest of the species called "shanks" in the genus Tringa. Its closest relative is the lesser yellowlegs, a much smaller bird with a very different appearance apart from the fine, clear, and dense pattern of the neck, which both species show in breeding plumage. It breeds in North America and the West Indies and winters in southern North America, Central America, the West Indies and South America.

El playero aliblanco[2] o tigüi - tigüi (Tringa semipalmata) también conocido como playero grande, anteriormente en el género monotípico Catoptrophorus, como Catoptrophorus semipalmatus,[3] es una especie de ave caradriforme de la familia Scolopacidae. Es un animal de buen porte y fuerte, el mayor de las especies de su género. Su pariente más cercano es Tringa flavipes, un ave de mucho menor porte con una apariencia muy distinta a pesar de que ambas especies comparten en cuanto al diseño de su plumaje fino, claro y denso durante su reproducción.
