Distribuzione e habitat


L'areale della specie si estende dal sudest asiatico alle Filippine, alla Nuova Guinea e all'Australia settentrionale.[2]

Nauclea orientalis is a species of tree in the family Rubiaceae, native to Southeast Asia, New Guinea, and Australia. It has many common names, including bur tree, canary wood, Leichhardt pine and yellow cheesewood.[2] It grows to a maximum of around 30 m (98 ft) in height and has large glossy leaves. It bears spherical clusters of fragrant flowers that develop into golf ball-sized edible but bitter fruits. The yellowish to orange soft wood is also used for timber and in woodcarving and folk medicine. Much recently in Australia, it has been called the coronavirus tree because its flowerhead resembles the virus.[3]

Nauclea orientalis est une espèce d'arbre de la famille Rubiaceae. Originaire d'Asie du Sud-Est, de Nouvelle-Guinée et d'Australie, l'arbre atteint une hauteur de 30 m et présente de grandes feuilles brillantes. Il porte des grappes sphériques de fleurs parfumées qui donnent des fruits de la taille d'une balle de golf : ces fruits sont comestibles mais amers. Le bois qui va du jaunâtre à l'orange est utilisé en charpente, en taille mais aussi en médecine traditionnelle.

Науклея восточная (лат. Nauclea orientalis) — один из видов деревьев рода Науклея семейства Мареновые (Rubiaceae). Типовой вид рода[2]. Впервые был описан Линнеем как Cephalanthus orientalis в первом издании Species Plantarum, однако в 1762 году во втором издании[3] вид был помещен в род Nauclea.
