Salix irrorata (en anglais, blue-stem willow) est une espèce de saule de la famille des salicacées, originaire du sud-ouest des États-Unis, proposée comme plante ornementale en jardinerie.

Description

Salix irrorata est un arbuste érigé capable de supporter un peu le sec. La floraison décorative apporte des chatons à cupule noire puis grise et enfin jaune rouge. L'écorce des rameaux va du rouge noirâtre à un stade pruineux et blanc. Ses feuilles lancéolées sont vert franc sur le dessus et blanc argenté dessous. Les stipules sont absents ou rudimentaires. En mars-avril, ses chatons sont gris. Il préfère une exposition au soleil et atteint une taille de 4 mètres à l'âge d'une vingtaine d'années[1]^,[2].

Salix irrorata, the dewystem willow, blue-stem willow, or sandbar willow, is a species of willow native to the US states of Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico, and to northern Mexico.[2] In spite of its bluestem willow common name, its stems are red, but a white coat develops that makes them appear bluish. A bushy shrub that prefers moist areas, in a garden setting it needs coppicing to both keep it from growing overlarge and to maintain the attractive bark coloration.[3] It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit as an ornamental.[4]
