En classification phylogénétique APG II (2003)[2] et classification phylogénétique APG III (2009)[3] cette sous-classe n'existe pas car elle constitue un groupe polyphylétique[4].

Hamamelidae es un taxón de la categoría subclase, perteneciente a las dicotiledóneas, que agrupaba a plantas cuya característica principal era que poseían flores polinizadas por viento (anemófilas) usualmente agrupadas en amentos. El taxón fue utilizado por Cronquist y otros sistemas de clasificación por un tiempo (ver Cronquist 1981,[1] 1988,[2] Takhtajan 1980[3] que lo escribe correctamente como Hamamelididae.[n. 1] Numerosas líneas de evidencia muestran que este taxón no es monofilético. En clasificaciones modernas como el sistema de clasificación APG III (2009)[4] y el APWeb (2001 en adelante[5]), el taxón fue abandonado.
