Classiquement elle comprend trois espèces appartenant au genre Cardiopteris (en). Ce sont des plantes herbacées rampantes, à latex, des régions tempérées à subtropicales de l'hémisphère sud, originaires d'Asie du Sud-Est et d'Australie.


Étymologie


Le nom vient du genre type Cardiopteris issu du grec καρδιά / kardia, cœur, et πτέρης / pteris, aile, fougère.


Classification


La classification phylogénétique APG (1998)[2] la place dans les familles de position incertaine.

La classification phylogénétique APG II (2003)[3] et la classification phylogénétique APG III (2009)[4] assignent cette famille à l'ordre Aquifoliales. Le Angiosperm Phylogeny Website augmente la famille à 5, 6 ou 7 genres dont Citronella.

Cardiopteridaceae es el nombre de una familia de plantas de flores que estaba incluida en el orden Celastrales y que el sistema APG II la incluye en el orden Aquifoliales. Consta de 7 géneros, nativos de las regiones subtropicales del sudeste de Asia y Australia y zonas templadas del sur de Chile.

Оно включает в себя 5 родов, распространённых в субтропических районах Юго-Восточной Азии и Австралии.
