The family of marine fishes Hexagrammidae incorporates the greenlings. These fish are found on the continental shelf in the temperate or subarctic waters of the North Pacific. They are a well-known family in the littoral zone from southern California north to the Aleutian Islands. The most commercially important species is the lingcod (Ophiodon elongatus), a common food fish.

Las molvas o lorchas son la familia Hexagrammidae de peces marinos, la única del suborden Hexagrammoidei incluido en el orden Scorpaeniformes, endémicos del norte del océano Pacífico, principalmente en aguas subárticas y templadas, con una especie (Hexagrammos stelleri) que habita también en el océano Ártico.[1] Su nombre procede del griego: exa (seis) + gramma (signo o marca de escritura).[2]
