Pinus luchuensis, commonly called Luchu pine[2] or Okinawa pine,[2] is a species of conifer in the family Pinaceae endemic to, and locally abundant in the Ryukyu Islands of Japan.[1][2] It was once threatened by habitat loss in the wild, where it can be found growing in small stands near windy ocean shores.[1] Having been harvested widely since the Second World War, the remaining stands are no longer commercially viable,[1] except when cultivated for ornamental use.[2]

Pinus luchuensis ist ein immergrüner Nadelbaum aus der Gattung der Kiefern (Pinus) mit 10 bis 15 Zentimeter langen Nadeln und 4 bis 5,5 Zentimeter langen Samenzapfen. Das Verbreitungsgebiet liegt auf den Ryūkyū-Inseln Japans und erstreckt sich von Meereshöhe bis auf 700 Meter Höhe. Pinus luchuensis ist sehr windtolerant und verträgt salzhaltige Luft und Meeresgischt gut. Das Holz wird kaum wirtschaftlich genutzt, die Art wird jedoch zur Stabilisierung von küstennahen Sanddünen auch außerhalb ihres natürlichen Verbreitungsgebiets verwendet.

Pinus luchuensis (лат.) — вид растений рода Сосна (Pinus) семейства Сосновые (Pinaceae). Ареал распространения находится на японских островах Рюкю и простирается до высоты 700 метров. Вид очень ветроустойчив и хорошо переносит солёный воздух и морские брызги. Древесина почти не используется в коммерческих целях, но этот вид используется для стабилизации прибрежных песчаных дюн даже за пределами своего естественного ареала.
