The genus name of Neoparrya is in honour of Charles Christopher Parry (1823–1890), who was a British-American botanist and mountaineer.[3]
The genus and the species were circumscribed by Mildred Esther Mathias in Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. vol.16 on page 393 in 1929.[2]
Former known species, Neoparrya megarrhiza (A.Nelson) W.A.Weber[4]
GRIN now list the genus Neoparrya as a possible synonym of Cymopterus Raf.[1]
