The shrub has a low spreading to prostrate habit and typically grows to height of 0.1 to 0.5 metres (0.3 to 1.6 ft). It blooms between September and February producing red to purple flowers.

Darwinia pinifolia is typically found in sandy soils along the coast of the southern Wheatbelt and Swan Coastal Plain.[1]
