Brosimum guianense, called snakewood, letterwood, leopardwood, and amourette, is a species of flowering plant in the genus Brosimum, native to southern Mexico, Central America, Trinidad, and tropical South America.[2][3] A tree reaching 40 m (130 ft), its heartwood can command a price of $30 per kg.[4]

Brosimum guianense (Syn.: Brosimum tessmannii Mildbr., Piratinera guianensis Aubl.), deutsch oft auch Schlangenholz oder Letternholzbaum, ist eine südamerikanische Baumart, die zur Familie der Maulbeergewächse (Moraceae) gehört. Ihr Holz zeichnet sich durch besondere Struktur und extreme Härte aus und wird beispielsweise im Musikinstrumentenbau verwendet.
