Aquilegia flabellata, common name fan columbine or dwarf columbine, is a species of flowering perennial plant in the genus Aquilegia (columbine), of the family Ranunculaceae.
Aquilegia flabellata grows to 20–30 centimetres (7.9–11.8in). in height. It has slightly glaucous, divided leaves. In early summer, it produces pale blue, violet-blue or lavender flowers, about 3 centimetres (1.2in) in width, with creamy-white petals.[1][2]
Distribution and habitat
This species is native to Eastern Asia – Japan and Korea.[1]
Cultivation
This low-growing columbine is suitable for cultivation in an alpine garden or rockery. Numerous cultivars have been selected for garden use. The compact varieties A. flabellata var. pumila[3] and A. flabellata var. pumila f. alba[4] have gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
