Thermococcaceae (лат.) (Термококки) — семейство архей из типа эвриархеот (Euryarchaeota), единственное в порядке Thermococcales и классе Thermococci[1][2] (синоним Protoarchaea Cavalier-Smith 2002[3]). В семейство включают 3 рода, более 40 известных видов, что делает его самым многочисленным семейством в домене архей. Вероятно, изучена лишь небольшая часть существующих в природе видов этого класса[4].

Описание

Характеризуются очень высокой температурой оптимального роста (80 °С выше) при pH среды близкой к нейтральной (оптимум у большинства лежит в пределах 6—8) и солёности, близкой к солёности морской воды. Наиболее частые места обитания — подводные гидротермальные источники. Представители рода Thermococcus обнаружены также в наземных гидротермах Новой Зеландии. Сведений об обитании термококков в аэробных и низкотемпературных экосистемах и в средах с высоким или низким pH в настоящее время нет[4].
