Areale


Vive nell'Oceano Atlantico Orientale tra il 43°N ed il 19°S di latitudine. Più precisamente abita le acque del Mediterraneo occidentale, del Marocco, del Senegal, quelle comprese tra la Guinea-Bissau e la Nigeria e quelle comprese tra il Gabon e l'Angola[1].


Habitat


Preferiscono le profondità comprese tra 30 e 500 metri[1]. Vivono principalmente vicino a fondali fangosi[2].


Aspetto


Le dimensioni massime registrate sono di 188 cm[1].


Riproduzione


Si tratta di una specie ovovivipara[3].


Alimentazione


Si nutrono principalmente di piccoli squali e di carangidi[1].


Interazioni con l'uomo


Vengono consumati freschi o essiccati e salati dall'uomo, ma vengono catturati anche per l'olio di fegato e la pelle[1].

The sawback angelshark (Squatina aculeata) is an angelshark of the family Squatinidae[2] It is one of rarest species of sharks known to date, and one of the three species of angelsharks that inhabits the Mediterranean. The Sawback angelshark lives in sandy and muddy bottoms of the ocean at depths of 30-500m.[3]

Эти акулы встречаются в западной части Атлантического океана на глубине до 500. Максимальная зарегистрированная длина 188 см. У них плоские голова и тело. Они размножаются путём яйцеживорождения. Рацион состоит из небольших рыб и беспозвоночных. Представляют незначительный интерес для коммерческого рыбного промысла[3].
