Les espèces de ce genre sont myrmécomorphes : elles ressemblent à des fourmis comme le suggère le nom du genre, du grec ancien : μύρμηξ, myrmex : fourmi.

Systématique et taxinomie


Ce genre a été décrit par MacLeay en 1839.

Iola[3], Ascalus[4] et Pergasus[4] ont été placés en synonymie par Simon en 1901[5].

Herilus[4] a été placé en synonymie par Bonnet en 1957[6].

Bizone Simon, 1903[7], préoccupé par Bizone Walker 1854, remplacé par Bizonella par Strand en 1929[8] a été placé en synonymie par Wanless en 1978[9].

Myrmarachne (др.-греч. μύρμηξ — «муравей» и ἀράχνη — «паук») — род аранеоморфных пауков из подсемейства Myrmarachninae в семействе пауков-скакунов (Salticidae), которые подражают муравьям, помахивая своими передними ногами (что сходно с движением усиков муравьёв). Около 200 видов.
