Utilisation en stratigraphie

La base du Darriwilien, le quatrième étage de l'Ordovicien, repose juste au dessus de la zone Nord-Atlantique du conodonte Microzarkodina parva.

La base repose aussi sur la partie supérieure de la zone nord-américaine de Histiodella altifrons.
