Betta taeniata is a species of gourami endemic to the Southeast Asian island of Borneo, where they live in inland waters.

They are paternal mouthbrooders.[1] Males in this species have more coloration[2] and have broader heads than females. Males also have a darker stripe near the anal fin.[1]
B. taeniata. is native to Sarawak and Kalimantan Barat.[3] It has also been found in Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.[1]
It lives in wetlands and appears to be restricted to hill streams in forests.[3]
